Oracle Fusion HCM Technology

Oracle Fusion HR software is a modular suite of applications designed to work as a complete Human Capital Management (HCM) solution or as modular extensions to legacy Oracle HCM applications. The HR software is built on a standards-based middleware foundation (i.e. Java, XML, Web Services, SOA, SQL), leverages a common data model and offers ubiquitous browser support for IE, Firefox and Safari.

System Integration Capabilities

The Oracle Fusion HCM software offers pre-built integrations to PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and E-Business Suite. Integration can also be delivered through built-in data exchange tools, prebuilt integrations, and web service APIs. System integration features support the extension and embedding of both custom HTML and content external to the system, and additionally, integrations that occur in concert with workflows that support automated actions which between systems when changes are made to HR system data. System Administrators also have the tools to leverage XML/SOAP APIs through IBM WebSphere, Microsoft .NET, or BEA WebLogic for retrieval, modification, creation, deletion, and synchronization of data.

For groupware integration, Oracle WebCenter Collaboration supports integration with back-end groupware servers (i.e. Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino). This capability allows users to access meetings on a groupware calendar using the "My Calendar" portlet, create new appointments or meeting requests, and synchronize an Oracle WebCenter Collaboration calendar with a groupware calendar. Groupware connections are configured by Oracle WebCenter Collaboration administrators; however, it should be recognized that if no groupware server is configured, no Groupware Integration functionality will be available to users. The application also provides synchronization with email for Outlook and Lotus Notes.

Software Customization Capabilities

Oracle HR software can be extensively customized at the presentation, application and data layers using Oracle tools or select third party tools. The client or presentation layer can be configured so that the user interface displays information in a way each user wants (via drag-and-drop functionality)—including allowing personalization in the form of customized themes, skins, forms, screens and dynamic layouts. Modifying the application layer on the other hand works through the primary customization tools of field management, workflow, and, if needed, scripting—mostly done within the application. Application layer changes often require technical resources, however, need not incur source code modifications which means that software upgrades won't necessarily negatively affect or override the changes. Finally, Oracle Fusion HCM allows for customization at the data layer by supporting field, object, and data relationship creation or modification.

An important factor for these types of software customization is ease-of-use, which the HR software enables by making many processes simple enough for Human Resource staff and business analysts to make as needed, often using Oracle BPEL (Business Process Execution Language). The Oracle BPEL Process Manager is a workflow tool for designing and running business processes, and provides a sophisticated, standards-based (XML, XSLT, XPATH, JMS, WSDL and JCA) solution for creating, deploying and managing cross-application business processes with both automated and manual workflow triggers, including: task assignment and rule-based routing; multiple workflow patterns; and a unified design environment for modeling integrated business processes. The Oracle BPEL Process Designer uses a graphical and user-friendly interface to build BPEL processes—such as drag-and-drop process modeling, integrated adapter and human workflow wizards, and built-in integration with email and JMS message services; JCA 1.5 connectivity; adapters for packaged applications and legacy systems; database adapter; XSLT transformation services; human workflow services; and Java embedding. Because this tool can automate otherwise manual processes, it is extremely powerful in improving labor productivity and decreasing business process cycle times.
